In my last post, I talked about the rumored Jio’s all new feature phone supporting 4G VoLTE.
On RIL’s 40th Annual General Meeting today, Mukesh Ambani announced the much awaited Jio feature phone which inevitably will disrupt the Indian Teleco Industry. The phone named JioPhone is all set to make its mark and rule the feature phone segment with its USP- 4G VoLTE support.
The JioPhone was first rumored to be worth 500 only. It turns out the phone won’t cost anything. Yes, you can grab one absolutely free. The buyers will have to make a refundable deposit of Rs. 1500 to avoid any misuse of the offer. They can claim and get this amount back after three years making the phone effectively free!
The phone is just like any other feature phone with a nine button numeric keypad. What stands it apart is the presence of 4G VoLTE, something which is rarely seen in the feature phone segment. That means you will be able to use Jio sim in this phone, which is also the actual motive of the company, to expand its reach in the rural areas where people still prefer to use feature phones.
It even understands Hindi voice commands making it even easier to use.
SOS feature is also available on the phone. By pressing any five keys in locked state, the phone will automatically send a distress message to your near and dear ones.
In the real sense, the idea behind this phone is freedom of digital world to every person in the country. The promise of Jio continues, voice calling will always be free.
The tariffs of this phone are a little different. Just for Rs. 153 a month, you will get unlimited voice, SMS, and data with 500MB FUP. Small recharge packs are available for those who can’t pay all at once.
You can even mirror content from your JioPhone to your TV. The plans for the same start at Rs. 309 a month.
To expand its trail, Jio has also decided to create 10,000 Jio offices across India to act as Sales channel partners. Over ten lakh physical retail outlets will also be opened to assist people with Jio’s services. Besides all this, Jio is already offering its services through E-commerce platforms.
