To facilitate seamless and paper-free travel as well as hassle-free airport entry, the government, on this Thursday, announced its new app Digiyatra. The app is an initiative to digital travel experience for Indian fliers.
It aims to bring together unique IDs such as Aadhaar, passport or PAN card and the airlines’ booking PNR under a single umbrella for a smooth and paperless flying experience. The app will also help in relieving queues and congestion at the airport. The biometric details linked to the Aadhaar will assist in providing a seamless zip-through experience.
Following multiple meetings with different stakeholders, the government has begun the process of building “the technical architecture” and a “Digital Travel Framework” for a smoother experience at the Indian airports, Said Jayant Sinha, Civil Aviation Minister. All the data is encrypted with a Unique ID key making the platform totally safe. The technical committee is working tirelessly on the issue of data protection, he further added.
Using this app, one can easily do a digital check-in at the airport without the need of standing in long queues. The smooth passage includes a digitally generated boarding pass and well as proper guiding to the boarding gate. Information like protocols, airline timings as well as queue lengths will be displayed on the app screen. However, baggage check-in is currently not facilitated by the app.
Another mode of identification in the app is ‘QR code’ which will be generated in the app itself. It makes the process more convenient as most of us use smartphones.
As of now, there is no information of the government making the use of this app mandatory. It is entirely the choice of the passenger, whether to use the app or not. If long queues do not bother you, then you can continue traveling using the regular modes of check-in.
