First unveiled at CES 2017, Asus’s Zenfone AR, the world’s first phone with both Google DayDream and Google Tango support has now arrived in India. The smartphone was launched today at an event held in New Delhi which was also live streamed on Asus’s official YouTube channel. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 49,999 in India and is up for sale exclusively on Flipkart. It comes along with a bunch of other offers too including 100GB of 4G data from Reliance JIO. You also get a discount of Rs. 2,500 if you purchase a Google Daydream VR headset with it, costing Rs. 6,499.
The biggest highlight is the support for the Google Daydream virtual reality (VR) platform, as well as the Google Tango, augmented reality (AR) platform. With a set of sensors and cameras, the phone lets you navigate the AR world with Tango AR apps. This feature alone separates it from other flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the HTC U11.
The ZenFone AR sports a 5.7 Inch QHD Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset clocked at 2.3 GHz
and is optimized for better performance of Google Tango and Daydream VR. Another good thing about this phone is that it comes with a massive 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM along with 128 GB of internal storage expandable by upto 2TB. The 3300 mAh battery supports Quick Charge 3.0 which can charge 60% in just 18 minutes.
Regarding optics, the smartphone houses a 23 MP rear facing camera with TriTech Focus System and additional depth and focus sensors for better AR experience. The front selfie shooter is 8 MP and has a dual LED flash to captured beautiful selfies even in low lighting conditions.
Although the pricing will restrict the middle-class consumers from owning it, the VR and AR support is truly blissful and worth trying.
